RAF Odiham

RAF Odiham is a short drive away and, although not officially within our catchment area, several RAF families choose Long Sutton C of E Primary School for their child.

We value the strong links we have with RAF Odiham and they provide some wonderful experiences for our children, including the annual ‘CAMO Day’ and the absolute highlight of Santa landing on the school field in a Chinnook! The RAF charities are also generous with their financial support of the school, for which we are very grateful.

We were successful in applying for the Hart Armed Forces Community Support Fund, which enabled us to train an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) and create a Wellbeing Room for group sessions and safe spaces.

Our Long Sutton Heroes club meets weekly. It provides essential emotional support for our forces children. Each week focuses on supporting different challenges. One of these is helping and supporting children when a parent is deployed. We pride ourselves on giving children access to this provision all year round which helps them to prepare for any changes in their family life.

Every April, we support the month of the Military child. We take time as a school community to recognise and celebrate the vital role our military children play within the Armed Forces family. We are incredibly proud of the resilience, adaptability and strength they show every day, whether that’s coping with change, supporting their families, or quietly helping others around them. This month gives us a special opportunity to say thank you, to listen, and to let our service children know how valued they are in our school. All children and adults have the opportunity to show support by wearing purple or yellow for a day. Purple is the colour chosen as it blends the colours of all service branches. Yellow is another option as it represents the dandelion - the official flower of the military child. Parents of our military children are also invited to a tea party.
